Our 4 Favourite Interior Styles for Tiny Houses!

There are certain interior design styles that really suit tiny homes more than others. Our favourites are Scandinavian, Wabi Sabi, Japandi and Aussie Coastal. All four approached favour clean, minimalistic lines, are generally light in colour and embrace natural elements and textures. This works really well in a tiny house. It creates space, warmth, cosiness and a seemless blending with the natural environment. So lets briefly check out these four styles…

1. Scandinavian

Scandinavian interior décor is rooted in the design principles of Nordic countries like Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. It embodies a delightful blend of functionality, simplicity and timeless elegance. The thing we really love about Scandinavian decor is its commitment to creating spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. Characterised by clean lines, a neutral colour palette, and an abundance of natural light, it exudes a sense of tranquility and harmony. Scandinavian design also places a strong emphasis on the use of sustainable materials and craftsmanship, making it not only visually appealing but environmentally conscious as well. This approach to interior decor fosters a cosy and inviting atmosphere, where the beauty of simplicity shines through, creating spaces that are both stylish, practical and comfortable.

2. Wabi Sabi

Wabi-sabi interior decor is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that celebrates the beauty of imperfection, transience, and simplicity. It values natural materials, weathered textures, and an unrefined, minimalist approach to design. What we love about wabi-sabi decor is the way it embraces the marks of time, such as worn wooden floors or beams and weathered ceramics, as they tell stories and evoke a sense of nostalgia. Wabi-sabi invites us to appreciate the impermanence of life and find beauty in the raw and unpretentious, reminding us that perfection is often found in the imperfect, and that true elegance lies in the understated and humble.

3. Japandi

Japandi interior décor is a style we’ve embraced at Uber Tiny Homes since our inception. It’s a harmonious fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian design elements, resulting in a captivating blend of tranquility, functionality, and timeless beauty. The thing we love about Japandi decor is its ability to strike a delicate balance between the warmth and natural elements of Scandinavian style, such as light wood, clean lines, and cosy textiles, and the serenity and simplicity inspired by Japanese aesthetics, including Zen-like minimalism and an appreciation for craftsmanship. It is usually characterised by the thoughtful application of black highlights within a natural colour palette – through window frames, cross beams, shadow lines, lighting or décor. This fusion of styles creates spaces that exude a sense of calm and order while maintaining a feeling of warmth and comfort. Japandi design embraces the idea of "less is more," emphasizing quality over quantity, and the result is interiors that feel both effortlessly elegant and deeply inviting, where every element serves a purpose and every detail is thoughtfully considered.

4. Aussie Coastal

Living in Byron Bay, Aussie Coastal is the interior of choice in our part of the world. This approach embodies the relaxed and laid-back spirit of coastal living in Australia, capturing the essence of endless summers and beachside serenity. The thing we love about Aussie coastal decor is its ability to create spaces that feel airy, bright, and inviting. It draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the Australian coastline, featuring a palette of soft blues, sandy neutrals, soft greens and whites, which mirror the colours of the ocean, sand, eucalypts and sky. The use of natural materials like rattan, reclaimed wood, and linen textiles brings an earthy, tactile quality to the design, while large windows and open spaces allow for an abundance of natural light. Aussie coastal decor seamlessly blends the indoors with the outdoors, often incorporating elements like lush greenery to create a sense of tropical paradise right at home. It's a style that encourages relaxation, evoking a connection to nature and the beach, making it both visually captivating and wonderfully comfortable.
